Good, dependable spreader Jun 22, 2005
By Dave B. Have used this spreader for 12 years to spread fertilizer, sand, & seed on 3 acre plot. Spreads very evenly, doesn't clog easily, is easy to clean (just hose off) and very corrosion resistant. Depending on the material, the broadcast spread is 8-12 ft. I spread around 350 pounds of organic fertilizer twice a year and this spreader makes that very easy.
Construction: All metal pieces that contact the fertilizer are stainless steel. Fasteners look like they are zinc plated. Uses standard pneumatic tires. Sturdy, durable non corroding plastic hopper. (no signs of UV cracking after all this time...)
Suggested product improvement would be to add zerk fittings on axle sleeves to make it easier to grease.
Only complaint is that the control settings don't correlate to any major fertilizer brands (Scotts, Earthway, etc.). As a result you need to set application rate by trial and error.

Just what I wanted Oct 28, 2005

The broadcast spreader I purchased was delivered promptly, in good shape and with nothing missing. Using this tool allowed me to fertilize my 1&1/2 acre lot in a speady fashion and a evenly distribution of the fertilizer. I would recommend this spreader to anyone with a large yard and a riding lawn mower.

Poor gearbox design Jun 02, 2009
By affromma I have purchased four Agri-Fab units over seven years and have had to repair or replace the gearboxes on every one.
I keep buying them because they're cheaper than comps in their class.
But I've had enough. [Have you ever experienced the frustration and anger of the freakin' thing 'seizing' during your "Weed 'n Feed" run? It sucks, believe me.]
Spend $100 more and save your heart and your lawn.
I have written Agri-Fab extensively over the past five years asking them to fire the engineers responsible for designing this POS. [What good is them sending you replacement parts if they fail identically in short order?]
I write this review only because they continue to put a cheap plastic gearbox ... costing maybe $1 ... on their $100 and $200 units.

Tow Behind Broadcast Spreader May 22, 2007

The spreader arrived in a box that looked like it had been hit by a train but, no internal damage and all parts were present. There is about a 15-20 min assembly process to put it together.
The unit works fine and is a labor saver when the option is to fertilize a 1 acre lot with a walk behind push spreader.
One problem is the on/off arm is not long enough to reach when attached to my lawn tractor. I had to add an extension, so I could easily open and shut the gate during turns and stops. Otherwise the fertilizer continues to fall out the hopper and onto the lawn where it will kill the grass. The extension works fine and parts are available at Home Depot or Lowes.
Fertilizer flow rate is a guess or if you want to be accurate you need to do a test spread over a known sq ft to calibrate the spreader.
All in all a good unit that should last for years.

not suited for medium use Nov 25, 2010

this spreader has all plastic gears. this is good for not corroding but the gears are easily stripped if a clump of fertilizer gets to the mizer pin. mine is less than 6 months old and is now usless. the flow rate lever is also very "iffy" at best not very accurate due to the fact it has a tendency to move when in use. and where did they get the 125 lb. rating from. most fertilizer comes in 50 lb. bags. my advice ... pay the extra and get a professional model. this one looks cool but just cant handle the work load.
