Trims hedges quicly and easily. Easy to load and unload into motor assembly. Has easy to use plastic sheath to keep it from cutting you. Highly recommended!!

Good value Jan 16, 2010
By B. Davis Bought the reconditioned expand-it (Ryobie) hedge trimmer on line at Homer's (Thirty Nine dollars) as an attachment for my Poulan Pro string trimmer. The trimmer looks like new, and works well with the Poulan Pro. I've only had it a week, but so far I'd highly recommend it.
Update. The hedge trimmer rounded out the Poulan shaft so that other attachments won't work. Had to buy a new string trimmer, and dedicate the old one for hedge trimming. Should have known better. Never buy Ryobie junk.

Nice if you need an extension, but REALLY heavy! Jul 19, 2008

I purchased one of these to go with my Troy-Bilt Big Red line trimmer.
I've got some really large bushes and hedges in my yard, and hoped that this would keep me from having to bring out the ladder (and give me an alternative to the crappy electric hedge trimmer I have).
Well... it works reasonably well. I'm not sure I'd use it on any thick hedges, because it seems like the "teeth" are really too small for more than routine trimming. But as far as routine trimming goes, it works great.
The only downside (and your experience may vary, depending on the trimmer you're attaching it to) is that you wind up with a tool that gets incredibly heavy, and somewhat difficult to maneuver. This is great if you have a long row of bushes or hedges to do a level trim on, but you really aren't going to want to wield this around to do detail work.
For the price, though, it's worth having around if you have a lot of hedges and bushes. Amazon's price on this stomps what you'd find at any large home improvement store, and other than the brown box it comes in, it looks 100% new (not refurbished).
Hedge trimmer Mar 16, 2012
By Grizz This hedge trimmer cuts beautifully. It made short work of a whole bunch of overgrown azaleas and gardenias as well as a bunch of other small bushes and trees.
The reach afforded by the Ryobi trimmer shaft makes it so easy to get to the hard-to-reach spots when cutting tall bushes and plant islands.
Its a good value and a useful tool. I've used it a lot and had no problems with it at all.
Expand-IT review Nov 28, 2011
By VT woods I was looking for a trail/ brush trimmer that provided a swift cutting action. Something between a chainsaw and a brush cutter, that would not tangle the blade. I believe this hedge trimmer is it. After using it for an hour in tall grass, spindly pricker bushes, and new branch growth along trails, I am satisfied. It was a good gamble on price, and being reconditioned. It looked new and performed flawlessly right out of the box.I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because of my lack of time with using it. I highly recommend. Cheers.
