Magnificent Hand Ax Mar 20, 2007
By Justin Higinbotham This ax from Fiskars is great - exactly what you expect from such a well-reputed company. For me, it easily meets all of my splitting/chopping needs, coming close to a full-size ax in efficiency, but without the space requirements. The handle is solid and feels indestructible, and the head holds an excellent edge. In my view, the perfect light duty ax.

Great little splitter Jan 15, 2010
By GMZ I think this might be my favorite axe. It is hefty enough to split on the first swing 95% of the time, but small enough to use anywhere or take with you. I got this splitting axe for the purpose of making kindling and smaller pieces for fireplace and stove use, and it excels at this task. I have a nice setup in my garage to use it. The blade is decently sharp out of the box, but is much better after a few strokes on the Fiskars sharpener.

Great Axe for the Timid Novice May 13, 2009
By Juliet E. Bell As a victim of the 2008 ice storm, I had a LOT of wood to split. Never having split wood before I consulted my neighbor who does forestry work for a living. He recommended the Fiskars brand as the BEST. I chose this smaller one thinking I would have better control with the shorter handle (I'm a woman in my 60s). This axe coupled with a sledge hammer for the bigger cuts has been perfect for my needs. It will split with one stoke (once you get the hang of it) and does appear to be indestructible.

An Excellent Axe for Smaller People May 30, 2009
By Jane Gardener My Fiskars 7856 17-inch-long Splitting Axe is perfect for my small muscles. The axe head is smaller and lighter in weight than that of the standard axe which allows me to swing it properly and connect with wood instead of my leg! The short handle allows me to pack the axe inside my backpack for trail-clearing yet it's long enough for me to hold it with both hands when I need extra power. The large, orange handle end keeps me from losing it when I lay it down on the forest floor when switching to another tool. The blade is very sharp even after a full day of chopping logs and branches in the woods. As recommended, I am cleaning the blade and sharpening it lightly with the Fiskars Axe and Knife Sharpener after a day's use.
