Japanese quality May 30, 2009
By chanoch winnykamien I own two more whet stones bought in Tokyo. They are bigger and four times more expansive. This one is smaller so honing is less confortable than the original Japanese size, but it is not a big issue.
This stone is good for sharpening your knifes. I would improve its holding base, but hey for this sum of money you can't expect for the ultimate stone. You get plenty for your small bucks.

It is not a Ceramic stone Jan 21, 2010
By Alexander V. Panov This is not a ceramic stone, it is aluminum oxide (with something) sandstone. With real ceramic stone you use mineral oil, with a sendstone - water. Big difference in purpose, method and results.

It works great! Jul 16, 2010
By Yhem Niebuonrit I had variety whetstone 800/6000, 1200 for my Japanese damascus, Shun, J.A.Henckels knives. They all work great. I have to follow the steps from 800 to 6000, and it took some time to get super sharp blade. For quicker resolve and be able to use the knife right away, I use Joshua Roth 1804 ceramic stone. It's much cheaper than natural stone, but it does a great job. I recommended!
