Liberty Garden Hose Reel - Poorly made in China Apr 29, 2009
By W. Tranter Good design but poorly made in China. 1) The first thing you'll notice is the stench of the "rubber" tires. This goes away after a couple of weeks. 2) The central component, the brass swivel/o-ring fitting at the leader hose/reel hub attach point, was too short. I had to disassemble it in order to get a wrench on the fitting to tighten it. Not too difficult if you have the correct retaining ring pliers. 3) The metal wasn't properly cleaned before powder coating, so large pieces flake off when you tighten the nuts and bolts during assembly. 4) There is no friction device on the reel, so the reel continues to spin after you pull on the hose, causing the hose to uncoil on the reel. 5) The hoops on the reel are full of welding slag, which makes an interesting tumbling sound when you turn the reel. 6) The leader hose is stiff and cheap. I've already replaced this with a quality product from Rapid Reel. American made by a family business in Lincoln, NE. See link.Rapid Reel 225-Foot Four-Wheel Wagon Hose Reel #GH168-WG

Poor Quality and Construction Apr 29, 2009
By Sam Houston Reel connection for the hose leaks a great deal. I have taken it apart and reassembled it 3 times without success. Can't seem to get parts to try and replace the connection. Reel does not have any friction to stop it from "free wheeling" after you pull the hose. A waste of a hundred bucks.

"IN search of quality"
Had this hose reel for 24 hours. It's returned. Money back. Save the time, effort and money. It leaked like a fountain.

Just awful Jul 26, 2009
By J.C.
"researcher"
Like everyone has said this thing is terrible. Had mine for a year and the handle on the reel rusted and broke off. And I brought it in in the Winter! The quality of the materials used to make this are simply awful, the form factor is great and very useful, but it will fall apart under normal use. Go with something of quality you money will be better spent.

Not worth the money, tires are crap Jul 13, 2010
By Keith E Dunbar I purchased this item from Lowes. I had to fix the leaky problem which was nothing more than tightening an allen hex screw. My problem is the tires. All the tubes are rotten and the tires are flat. I do not understand the advantage of having tires that hold air. It is not an off road unit. Fairly good solid rubber would function just fine. I would not recommend this item unless you have the ambition to store it indoors whenever it is not in use. I am sure that sitting outside exposed to the sun and weather is probably going to cause premature part(s) failure.
