1Switch is way too hard to slide.  Sep 08, 2006
By thebigE
I can operate it, but the lady I bought it for cannot. Too much pressure needed to slide the switch and ignite it. That's probably the "child resistant" feature (there is no extra button or switch that must be pushed to use it). Also it ships without fuel.

5Very nice lighter at the right price.  Apr 23, 2008
By Charles Mccracken
This lighter is well built and didn't give me any problems. As a matter of fact it works every time I pushed the slide forward. If you are an average man the slide will offer a little resistance, but nothing to the extent that the other user's feedback notes. For the price alone and reliability im giving this five stars I ordered this with other items (blu rays) I bought from Amazon and got free shipping. Great Deal!

It should be noted for this review I first decided to buy this lighter after e-mailing Chelsea Watch and they didn't return a simple e-mail asking about their inventory on the Zippo series lighter. Amazon answers "every" e-mail without question and have always been very dependable.

2Disappointed  Apr 07, 2007
By R. Dansey "music lover"
The price of shipping was more than the lighter making for a product that looked good but turned out not to be worth the price.

It's very hard to push the slider to cause the ignition. A child-protection device? I suppose but as an adult, I was not amused. It takes several tries to get it to ignite as well. At least my fingers get some excercise so all is not lost. Go for a cheaper item at your local $.99 store.

3OK lighter, but plastic part melts & breaks  Oct 23, 2009
By Franz Ketterer "Franz"
==> From an engineering perspective I believe they break so quickly, because there is a plastic part inside the tip of the lighter, which melts (right where the flame exits). If you light something holding the lighter upside down (for example: lighting a bunch of tea-lights sitting in deep glasses), then this plastic gets hot and melts. If you do it long enough the plastic in the tip starts sizzling, melts, and eventually even catches on fire, so be careful. Smells pretty bad, too. I believe the function of this little plastic part is to hold in place the gas exit nozzle and the spark jump wire. Once it melts, the spark does not jump any more, or the gas flow is obstructed, and the lighter does not work any more. In my opinion, this plastic part in the tip should not be plastic, but ceramic to withstand the temperature, and the insulation of the spark jump wire should be made from Teflon for the same reason. All the plastic close to the flame can actually be a fire hazard & health hazard. But I guess they use plastic because it's much cheaper to manufacture them that way.

Long story short:
==> Use flame pointing up, or lighter will die quickly.
==> Besides the issue above, not a bad lighter.
==> I read all the reviews and warnings, but still purchased 2 of them, returned 1 so far.
==> Lighters came empty, had to fuel them up, which worked well.
==> Push-button I find not as hard to push as everybody says, but hard enough to be child-prove.
==> Once fueled, lighters worked well (as long as you don't melt the plastic inside the tip; see above).
==> Flame adjustment wheel works well.
==> Nice shape, looks good

OK, received the replacement quickly, good service. But they shipped it in a soft envelope, so I think it took some beating during shipping and broke through the middle, where the black plastic part joins the metal casing. So I epoxy'ed it back together, works fine now. So bear in mind that this is not really that strong of a product with a few reliability flaws. Otherwise works fine. Not a bad lighter.

1Not Worth It at All!  Dec 12, 2008
By TheProf
I purchased the lighter for my office and it was horrible. I am not by any means weak but I couldn't slide the switch to ignite the flame. I had to brace it and use both thumbs. Then it wouldn't even spark so I sent it straight back. Worthless...
