4Delicious flavor  Nov 26, 2010

These chips have worked very well in my smoker over the past year. I have used them mainly when smoking brisket - and have loved the smoke flavor. The benefit to using smaller chips is that they only need to soak for a short period of time before using. One the other hand, the negative of the small chips is that they burn off quickly. I usually use these in combination with larger wood chunks of either hickory or mesquite. This gives me the combination of great smoke flavor over a longer period of time. I have also added a second batch of chips later in my smoking to add more flavor. Of course, this all up to personal preference - I happen to enjoy a strong smoke flavor in most of my meats. I will definitely be ordering these (and the other varieties) again.

5Mmmmmm........  Jan 09, 2010

These chips impart amazing flavor, either soaked in water, whiskey or both. You can also do like I do and just throw them on the bottom of my gas grill to smoke the meat. It is recommended to soak these and place in a smoking tin which works great too but in a pinch or if time is limited you can just do like I said above and throw it in the grill.

3Flavor is good, but chips too small  Jan 27, 2012
By Bizzlebob
I got these chips to use with a side firebox style smoker. The box lasted for an 8-hour smoke which was good. However, the chips are very hard to use as they are very small, and sometimes only slightly bigger than a toothpick. When you soak them, they last a little longer, of course, but even then, when you throw them on hot coals, they burn up pretty quickly, and the smoke for flavoring on each handful doesn't last long. Which, if you don't want to risk over-smoking you meat, may be a good thing, but if you don't want to be constantly adding chips every hour to your firebox either, than this is a bad thing.

I would not purchase these again. I would prefer bigger chunks which would last longer and smoke longer at a time. If you want some quick smoke flavor to a traditional grilling of 20-30 minutes, then this might be good to impart some good flavor. Just not for a smoker where you are smoking for 6+ hours.
