Not impressed with the design Jun 15, 2008
By Dominic My sister bought this one for me and I should have made her get her money back. If I knew she spent this much I would have insisted! I hate plastic hose carts of any type. Plastic may not rust but it does not hold up well in heavy use. The hose that hooks to the faucet is cheap and kinks up. The wheels are pneumatic, they dont hold air sometimes and worse, the axles are way too close together which makes it unstable to roll on uneven ground. The big tray is nice, I would want that on any hose reel, but on the bottom with the reel on top. The tray is helpfull for holding sprinklers and nozzles and gardening gear. This one could be used for potting plants since it is easy to clean, the tray has lots of holes to drain water. Since the hose is under the tray you have to bend down further to crank it and it is harder to handle the hose because the reel is so enclosed by the unit.

HORRIBLE May 23, 2008

I bought one of these carts from Costco in early summer 2005. By early summer 2007, I was shopping for a replacement because the Suncast model was no longer useful. I was using it to hold 200' of hose, so you'd think it would hold up. It didn't. The core of the thing may be metal, but the hinges that keep it elevated are plastic. Once those go, all you're left with is a cart.
Don't buy this.

Bad. Reel Bad May 30, 2011
By Spudman Through the years I've gone through countless plastic hose reels, some lasting several seasons, some lasting but a couple months. This Suncast model may be the worst hose reel I've ever owned. Luckily I bought mine at the local bargain store for half the price listed here on Amazon.
It wasn't too bad assembling this thing though I prefer hose reels that are already fully assembled. Though advertised as having a 300' hose capacity, it's all it can do to handle my 200 feet of hose.
The one good thing I can say about this cart is that I haven't observed any leaks yet. Winding up the hose on this lightweight, unstable cart is quite a chore because it moves constantly while you try to wind the hose. There's nothing to put your foot on to keep this baby in its place which makes every rewind an adventure.
The weak, plastic handle does not inspire confidence and I'll be surprised if it lasts a month. Above the hose reel is a perforated storage tray, a good place to store hose accessories or maybe garden hand tools. I'm thinking about placing a cinder block in the tray in hopes that the extra weight will make the cart more stable. Can't be sure if the tray can hold much weight though.
This tinker toy was bought to replace a serviceable metal hose cart because of the Suncast's advertised capacity. I'm not getting rid of that metal reel; most likely it'll come out of retirement before the summer is over.
I feel ripped off even for what I paid. If you pay 70 some dollars for this thing, you'll probably regret it.

Good cart...lots of capacity May 14, 2011
By D. Shoup Overall a good value. Others comment the plastic may break, but I think this looks quite sturdy. The metal frame should hold up well and the plastic parts are thick and somewhat flexible, which should make it less likely to crack. It holds a huge capacity of hose. I have 200' on it and I don't even need to be careful how I wind it as there is plenty of space even if I do not wind it level (something I had to be careful about on my previous reel). My one complaint is that the wheels are much too close together. This makes the unit want to tip forward whenever I hit a rut in the yard or come to a sidewalk. There was plenty of room to move the axles apart...not sure why they didn't. Not a big deal as it never will tip over, but there are some places where I need to pull rather than push the cart.

It does the job. Aug 20, 2010
By Cheryl Renee Oz We purchased this hose reel cart to replace one that we already had that was leaking. This one is just okay. I'm going to compare it to the old one we had, and sadly they don't make the old one we had so we decided to purchase a different brand but a similar style which is this one.
First, It's a very lightweight plastic. My old cart I could put a very heavy flower pot on top with dirt, I wouldn't do that with this one because the plastic material is not that heavyweight, plus the old one had a lid to keep garden accessories out of the elements, and this one does not. Second, I move the cart around the yard a lot and when I do watering and the hose that connects to the spigot always loosens, which therefore leaks a lot of water, which is why I replaced our old hose cart to begin with. So, I'm constantly tightening the connector hose. Also, the wheels need air, my old cart had solid plastic wheels. So, we'll have to check the tires on this one often.
I'm rating it a 3-star because it does do what it's supposed to do and had I never had our original one I might like this one a little more. The cart is functional, it's just that our old cart we had was less expensive and a lot more durable.
