Good with a little work Aug 09, 2010 After reading fairly mediocre reviews of comparable Rubbermaid bins I purchased this Suncast model. Ive just built it and this was the experience.
The Good -
It arrived quickly in a large but easily managed box. Inside are six sturdy pieces and a brief instruction booklet.
The Not So Good -
While snap together construction is great in theory, in practice it isn't so simple. Either the result of manufacturing limitations, design flaw, or the material itself most of the snap points required more physical persuasion, by way of tapping with a rubber mallet, than what is advertised. Additionally on one of the side panels, a snap was deformed and it prohibited both it and another from meeting their receiving slots correctly. Eventually those slots broke after repeated attempts to bring them together.
The wheels themselves dont roll all that well either.
The Rest -
The overhanging lid is the most solid part of the bin and it feels much like a freezer chest, though without the close fitting seal. A small child or determined animal could lift it but otherwise it will stay put. Also it will not buckle when used as a seat.
I plan to seal the interior seams with Amazing Goop or GE Silicon for better weather resistance, some reinforcement to make up for the issue above, and to help keep any small unwanted visitors out.
mr Aug 07, 2010 The storage box was just what I wanted and $50.00 cheaper than catalogs. Was delievered just a few days after ordering.
What a product! Jul 05, 2010 I was extremely surprised that the storage box was so sturdy and well put together. It has made it through at least 4 storms since my purchase. There is a lot of room to store chemicals and floaty toys that I use for my pool. It can be placed anywhere on your deck and not take away from the appearance.
Don't buy it for the wheels Jul 05, 2010 This is a roomy, sturdy unit that is a welcome replacement for an inferior and old box. Cannot imagine anyone having a problem assembling it. For an english speaker (all parts have their location molded into the plastic) it's idiot-proof.
I like to wheel my storage through a grassy area. I expected the wheels to be similar to those you find on a cooler or luggage but they are tiny rollers. They work fairly well on a hard surface but not very effective in the rough. Sturdy enough to use the top as a seat even for big boys like me.
Great box.. .assembly suggestion Jun 11, 2010 The quality is very good. I suggest you do a dry fit before actually snapping the pieces together. To ease final assembly I suggest the pieces be left in the sun for an hour before you start the process to warm up. I can't imagine trying to put this together in the cold.
