Love My Smart Traker Jul 14, 2008
By Lizzy

I now actually own three Suncast Smart Traker hose reels. The first one was purchased a couple years ago at Costco. I have been so pleased with the ease of the way it reels and the convenience of the storage bin that when I needed another one for a different location I immediately started looking for another Smart Traker. I was unable to find one locally and was delighted to find one on Amazon. I ordered one and after it arrived I realized I could actually use a third one and ordered another one. I enjoy the ease in the way it reels, the fact that it is securely mounted in the ground and swivels. The storage bin is large enough to store brushes and cleaning items as well as my liquid fertilizer. I have had no problems with leakage around the connections. It is very neat looking as everything is concealed from sight. I highly recommend this product. I am nearly 70 and do all my own yard work and this product has made it much easier for me to maintain my bird baths and yard.

Easiest to roll up! Apr 21, 2009
By K. Costello I have MS and have weak arms, but still love to do my gardening. I've had such a hard time rolling up the hose, that many times it has stayed out ... all 100 ft of it! But this is the best purchase I've made all year! It rolls up with hardly any effort at all and since it has the smart trak, I don't even have to guide it. My husband was even impressed at how easy it was. Wonderful, wonderful product! Wish I had found it years ago!

A back saver if there ever was one! Jun 11, 2010
By Karen Wagner I was looking for a reel that would be easier to wind up. I couldn't have been more pleased - it was the #1 purchase / investment I made all year! I have a 75' hose that can be heavy to reel in. Especially with my older reel that didn't have the wind-up guide. (NOTE: always turn off the water and drain the hose first so that it's not so heavy. Live and learn.) The materials are relatively light weight plastic, but I haven't had any problems because I don't have to struggle getting the hose in (or out) - which is a back killer. Sometimes I have to open the thing up to adjust the guide if it stops winding. If you tried to force it at this stage, I think it would break. I'm careful to stop and open the thing up when that happens. I like the storage tray. It's convenient for holding my fertilizer bottle, some soap and a scrub brush.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, I'm not killing my back everytime I reel the hose in! A great investment - especially if you have a bad back!

Not worth $80 Sep 14, 2009

Suncast SSB200B is made from relatively lightweight plastic. For $80 I expected heavy built stuff. If it is not secured to the ground it will tip over when the hose is being pulled out and anything in the storage bin will topple out. My biggest complaint would be that the handle you use to reel up feels like it's ready to snap when you're reeling in a heavy hose. I only have about 100' of hose on it and I have to go pick up all the hose and carry it to the front of the box then I can reel it up.
My next complaint is as another reviewer mentioned, the arm the handle is connected to is too short making it take an extra long time to reel all the hose up. I can only imagine how tired my arm would get with a longer hose. I suspect this was part of the design to keep the flimsy plastic from breaking under the strain. With that said mine hasn't broken yet but only because I've been careful with it. The connections on it are still leak free and the storage box is a handy idea when the whole thing doesn't tip over. I wish I'd seen what I was buying beforehand, I would have spent more money for better quality and function. I don't recommend this product.

Hose Reel works as advertised Jul 04, 2009

The reel was delivered on time and it is almost completely assembled.
It would be nice if the hose connection on the reel was metal instead of plastic, but we'll see how that holds up.
After about 3 weeks all seems OK.
I am a little concerned about wear-and-tear on the hose guide part.
My yard is still as much dirt as it is grass, so there will be some abrasion as the hose is reeled back in. No problems at the moment.
The swivel does not work as well as I had hoped. I have to manually 'point' the box in the right direction and it only swings about 45 degrees to each side. I had hoped it would move 'automatically', as the hose was pulled out, but it does not. Not a biggie.
The hose reels in smoothly. I have about 120' of hose on it. I do have to either swivel the box or pull the hose around to keep it perpendicular to the hose reel. If the hose is being pulled from the side of the reel, it seems to put a noticeable strain on the plastic hose guide. I was a little scared it would break the guide, so I stretch the hose out perpenticular to the reel before I start cranking.
It would be nice if the crank assembly was a little higher. It gets to be a bit of a pain in the back as you crank for a while.
I know Suncast has a hose reel with an elevated crank, but I was concerned the extra length of the crank handle would be a potential breaking point. So I stays with the shorter assembly.
I was thinking of ordering a second unit, but the price has gone up almost $10, so I'll wait for a sale.
