Exceptionally well made, but . . . May 18, 2010
By W. Bennett I was originally looking at several other brands, but settled on this Swisher. Couldn't believe the shipping weight (430 lbs) - after all, it's just a wagon with a lawn mower engine on it, right? Turns out this thing is made of much, much heavier steel than your big-box version, and the impeller on the vacuum motor is made of the heaviest steel I've seen short of one of those big commercial chipper/vacuums! The quality of this piece of equipment is extremely good, and the engine started on the first pull after adding oil and gas. After assembling it comes trying to hook it to your mower though. The instructions really need some help in this part, and there's no appropriate sized attaching hardware like round head screws (just largish nuts & carriage bolts that didn't help). I've a lot of saved hardware so I was able to scrounge what I needed. Then I found that there wasn't a draw bar pin! Kind of irritating. I'll add more after I've used it a few times.
Just finished trying it out for a bit and had the cut off safety switch bump off (monitors the vertical pipe out of the impeller - and is NOT ANYWHERE in the manual save the parts breakdown). Adjusted it some and think it'll behave.

Well Built Dec 14, 2010
By Tim Kopp I purchased the lawn vacuum in 2005. I think it was an earlier model but looks identical to the model currently on sale. Last year I had to replace the canvas cover over the wagon and 2 years ago I replaced the inlet hose. On the canvas one of the zippers failed. The covers are somewhat expensive so I plan to have the zipper replaced so I will have a good spare cover. The inlet hose wore through in many areas and I started to loose suction. I purchased a replacement hose locally at a business called "House of Hose". Most larger cities should have a similar business. The replacement hose I purchased is much better quality and was more than 1/2 the price.
Overall the vacuum is excellent and has been well worth the price, which at that time was $800 through Amazon. Maintenance has been low and replacement of the above parts not surprising as things do need occasional replacement. The engine never fails to start, usually on the first pull even after sitting all winter. I am very pleased with the unit. Construction is excellent. Heavy guage steel is used in construction of the trailer, impeller, and other parts. The trailer looks like your average Craftsman-like yard trailer but don't be fooled by pictures. It is well built and very strong. Pine cones, leaves, pine needles, small sticks (and sometimes larger ones) all get sucked up. I have wondered a couple times if I was going to break the impeller but never do. The thing is tough. If the grass is damp it does tend to plug up both at the deck and sometimes in the suction hose.
As mentioned in an earlier review the documentation is lacking a little and it wasn't quite as easy to attach the boot to the mower deck as the instructions indicate. Be patient and cut carefully as you want as tight a seal as possible to minimize loss of suction.
At $800 the vacuum was a good deal. At the current price....I would have to give it some considerable thought.

Lawn Vac Nov 24, 2010
By Edwin Malechek The instructions on this unit are quite poor especially connecting the pipe to the bag and connecting the vacuum hose to the mower. When I first received the unit, the pipe would not fit to the motor but they sent a replacement right away. Another problem is checking oil as there is no dip stick to know how much you have. The unit does a very good job in a lawn area but if the leaves are very thick it jams quite easily. All in all it is still much better than raking.
