5Another Great Weber Accessory  Jul 27, 2008
By James R. Holtan "Info and more..."
As I'm sure is the case with most people, I bought these for indirect cooking -- you have great control of placement of briquettes when you're doing indirect cooking. When you're doing a turkey, you want to pile in the coals but insure they stay to the sides. For this, they work great.

For me, the surprising part is what a great aid they are for direct cooking. By placing them next to each other, you can intensify the heat source and actually raise (as a result of stacking up the briquettes in these) the level of heat source closer to the grill. A great addition when you have something you want to sear at the start of the grilling process.

5Excellent Purchase for Indirect Cooking and Smoking of foods  Sep 07, 2008
By Randy J. Sella
I received the Weber Char-Basket Charcoal Fuel Holders for my birthday recently. I used them first to slow cook 3 racks of baby back ribs "low and slow". I have cooked ribs many of times and used the indirect method but with the Weber Char-Basket Charcoal Fuel Holders it was so much easier to keep the charcoal in one area of the grill and to drop off chunks of wood for smoking. What impressed me the most was how easy it was to maintain the temperature at 190-200 degrees. Sounds crazy but it was much easier with the baskets.

Last night I indirectly cooked 4 half chickens. Used the baskets again but didn't smoke the birds. After 60 minutes the birds were crisp and cooked to a perfect 180 degrees. I added my favorite bbq sauce on the chicken and moved the half chickens over the baskets to just crisp up the bottoms. My family loved the meal and I was very impressed again with how much easier it is to cook with theses baskets.

I would recommend these to my entire fellow Weber charcoal grill friends. A small purchase with big results! Weber is the very best!

5Very handy grilling accessory  Nov 23, 2008
By Aderyn
These baskets make indirect-heat grilling very easy. They fit perfectly on either side of the Weber kettle with a drip tray in the middle, making perfect grilling of longer cooking foods, such as roasts and large pieces of meat, nearly foolproof. These and my Weber chimney starter are the grill accessories I use most often.

5Work fine  May 17, 2009
By sgeise "sgeise"
These do do a good job for indirect cooking. As at least one other reviewer mentioned, push them together and you get a really good sear too. For thick steaks, I'll put these side by side and sear the steak on both sides. Then I put the holders on opposite sides of the kettle and finish the steaks indirect. That works very well. The baskets are decent quality. They look like they will last for a good while. I think these are a very good purchase for Weber users.

5This is a "Must Have" Weber kettle accessory!  Oct 11, 2008
By Barbara Speck "mamawana"
The perfect answer for indirect cooking, no more coals rolling wherever they want. Use in conjuction with the hinged grill. This certainly make more sense than having to remove the entire grill. Coal baskets are large enough to hold plenty of coals and are vented to keep them hot while cooking.
