3it works, but...  May 26, 2005
By M. Barretta
This is more of a lid holder than nifty tool that lets it "slide aside"

The thing is held to the grill by two flat hooks that don't do a good job of holding it flat against the grill. The result is that there is a lot of horizontal play when the lid is sitting in it.

Overall, it's better than using the built in lid hook to hang it on the grill handle, but not by a lot.

3Slide Aside works "o.k.".  Oct 05, 2005
By P. J. Persing
I had a Weber kettle with a built-in lid holder for about 10 years. It was on it's last legs so when I moved I junked it and bought a new one. Unfortunately it didn't have the lid holder so I ordered a Slide-Aside. It clips over the top edge of the kettle and the lower portion just rests against the lower side of the kettle. It is narrower than the built-in variety and the bottom just sort of flops free. It does the job but I have to be careful not to pull it off the top of the kettle when I put the lid back on. Also, the clips that hold it to the top edge keep the lid from sealing completely, so when I finish cooking something and close the top and bottom vents air still gets in around the lid and keeps the charcoal burning much longer. It used to be I could cook a steak, close the vents, and the next time most of the charcoal would be left. Now most of the charcoal is gone and I have to sift down the ashes and refill the charcoal holders almost every time.

5Excellent addition for a Weber charcoal grill  May 11, 2006
By theoriginalsubguy
This is a relatively simple product so I will get straight to the point. I have a 18 1/2 one-touch gold and the lid already had a hook built in that would hold it to the uncovered grill. This device is inexpensive and will hold the lid a little more securely than the hook will. The only negative I could possible think of is that I have to remove the slide aside (takes all of 2 seconds) to fit the Weber deluxe cover over the grill. I also think this would be even better if I had the 22 1/2 inch grill since the lid for that is almost twice as heavy (neighbor has one). Not a necessity, but a decent add on for the grill. I gave it 5 stars because it fit perfect out of the box and does exactly what it says it will.

5Uses for slide-aside  Nov 06, 2004
By L. Anderson
Works great on a windy day to use lid as a wind break for the Webber Chimney! Lets me cook on days that would be too windy without it.

4A heavy-weight with adjustable hooks.  May 09, 2005
By Jolly Gourmand
It seems to work fine except the lid does not sit at a right angle to the grill as shown in the picture. Quite honestly, the large (not small) hook on the inner side of the grill top is quite sufficient for hanging the top from the handle. However, if you are going to cook with the top on, then I'm not certain the handle would withstand the heat from the hook. In such a case, the 'Slide-Aside' would be very useful.
