Excellent tool... Apr 10, 2010
By J. Rosas .....just not exactly as pictured. Has a blue synthetic handle. Works great for splitting kindling.
A fine tool that brings pleasure in every swing. Apr 11, 2012
By Kris Tuttle I love this splitter. I bought one to use at my barn to split small logs up for kindling and it works so well I got another as a birthday present for a good friend.
It's just heavy enough with the right head shape to be very effective for splitting logs in the range of 4-8 inches across. It also does a good job of taking a large split piece of wood and splitting into 3-4 smaller pieces to get the fire started.
Although I swing it some will enjoy using it with a mini-sledge for more control and stability.
If you're going to split wood, do it with tools you enjoy using!
Nice Hand Maul Apr 03, 2012
By ronmcq The Estwing Hand Maul is a great working compromise blending the best features of a small hand axe and a full size splitting maul. It is well balanced and has enough weight to resplit firewood into kindling. The one piece construction means no loosening heads and it has a comfortable rubberized grip. Best of all, it's made in the USA. Can't imagine why it won't last a lifetime.
Wow! This thing works great! Mar 07, 2012
By DJ I heat my home solely with a wood stove seven months a year. Winters in my neck of the woods get down to -20 degrees and I use a lot of wood. I have several chainsaws, axes, splitting mauls. and a hydraulic splitter. I saw this little guy while looking for a heavier hand hatchet for easier kindling production. I was not disappointed! This regularly splits logs up to 10" with little effort. This great tool sits near my hearth and saves me the hassle of going to the tool shed, through the snow, to get my large 12 lb maul when fixing splits that are too big to burn properly. I use this little guy everyday and wish I found it years ago. This tool is solid steel and feels great in my hand. It keeps a good edge too. I have no doubt it will last a lifetime.
